TISS Research Accelerator Funding now open for applications

The Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) is pleased to announce its 2024 call for funding support for research project proposals. This funding from the TISS Research Accelerator Fund is intended to support new ideas and promote innovation and interdisciplinary research in sport science, sport medicine & sport analytics.

Sinai Health System seeking inaugural Tanenbaum Chair in Musculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine

The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health, a University of Toronto-affiliated biomedical research center, is recruiting an emerging leader in the area of Musculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine. The successful candidate will be cross-appointed to appropriate research and/or clinical department(s) at the University of Toronto, and affiliated with the University-based Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport.

On September 13, Jacobs, who is a professor and former dean at the U of T Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE), hosted the institute’s first speaker series with a panel discussion on the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) within sport science, sport medicine and sport analytics research.

Joseph Baker appointed inaugural Tanenbaum Chair in Sport science, Data modelling and Sport analytics

The Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) is excited to welcome Professor Joe Baker to the Institute and the KPE Faculty. “Professor Baker is an international leader and world-class scholar in the areas of talent development and forecasting, and athlete development and tracking from a multi-disciplinary perspective,” said Gretchen Kerr, Dean at the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

The air in Toronto and across parts of North America has become so polluted due to forest fires in Quebec and Ontario that Environment Canada recently issued an air-quality advisory, suggesting people with asthma or heart disease, older adults and children wear a face mask when outside to reduce exposure to smoke particles. In response, many organizations have decided to reschedule outdoor activities or move them indoors.

TISS partners with the Data Sciences Institute at University of Toronto to offer Research Catalyst Grants in sports analytics and sports data science

Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) is pleased to partner with the Data Sciences Institute (DSI) at the University of Toronto to offer up to $100,000 per research proposal to multidisciplinary Collaborative Research Teams with a focus on innovative and novel sports data science and sport analytics research. Letters of Intent due July 14, 2023.

Seven KPE graduate students awarded prestigious inaugural TISS scholarships

From enhancing and sustaining competitive performance for athletes and para-athletes of all levels and every background to using data analytics to predict and augment individual and team performance, health and well-being, and improving athlete recruitment outcomes, the winners of the inaugural TISS scholarship are contributing to the institute’s mission of generating, advancing and disseminating transformational knowledge.

International Search launched for endowed Tenure Stream Professorship in Sports Analytics

The Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in sport science and data modelling. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and will begin on July 1, 2023.
